The Hoover Linx cordless stick vacuum is perhaps the best stick vacuum for hardwood floors on the market.
Why is it so good, and what’s in it for you?
- No cords and no bags, this is about as simple as vacuuming can get.
- Extremely wide vacuuming mouth (11-inches wide), allowing you to get more done with every sweep.
- Motorized power brush that can be turned on or off depending on what surface you are transitioning to.
- Agile enough to get all of the cleaning done. I’m talking about those hard to reach spaces like under chairs and on those hard floor edges and corners.
- Perfect for hardwood floors but great for carpets too.
- Fade-free battery. It will only quit when flat and will not fade over time and come to a slow, frustrating stop.
Hoover Linx review
The Hoover Linx has gone a long way towards making vacuuming a lot easier. However, it does still come with some caveats.
First of all, it is cordless. You will drawing power from a battery that needs to be charged after every use, but by all accounts the Linx is a lot quieter for it.
Approximate battery life is 20 minutes and recharge time is around 3 hours. Mileage may vary.
The battery should never be left in the charger when not in use while the charger is still on, because it will fail. I guess the point I am trying to make here is that caring for the battery to ensure maximum capacity will be a little more complicated than simply plugging a traditional vacuum into the wall socket.
There is a 2-year warranty on the battery and Hoover seem to honor it, regardless of whether or not the battery fails because of human error.
How well does it work?
Extremely well by all accounts. Quiet, versatile and maneuverable are some of the hallmarks of this cordless stick vacuum cleaner.
The wide cleaning path and ability to get into virtually any nook or cranny in the house is also appreciated by many (it only needs a minimum of around 9 inches of clearance to get under an obstacle).
The Linx also utilizes the Hoover WindTunnel technology which consists of three separate suction channels to remove even the most stubborn of dirt and dust.
It will be able to handle the vast majority of surfaces in your home with ease but it may have trouble with small or light mats, such as what you would find in the bathroom or at an entrance to the house where people wipe their feet. I find that this is true of most vacuums though.
Bagless dirt collection
Instead of traditional vacuum bags this Hoover stick vacuum employs a dust cup that is situated near the bottom of the vacuum. It is very easy to empty and the only complaint, if any, was that it filled up too quickly.
I’ve always believed that it was difficult to have a vacuum cleaner with very strong suction where the bag or dust cup didn’t fill up fast. It just seems to me that it would be difficult to get a combination of both in the one unit. People being people will always have some gripe though!
Is there any place where the Hoover Linx falls down?
Apart from the perceived lack of battery power, there aren’t really too many things wrong with this vacuum cleaner.
It is true that 20-25 minutes is not a long time but then again it will be enough for the right people. People complain about this vacuum because the battery life is atrocious in their words, but compared to what I ask myself?
In the same way that you would not buy a convertible if you had a family of 6 kids, don’t buy a battery powered stick vacuum if you have a large house with a lot of cleaning involved.

Hoover Linx emptying processpowered stick vacuum if you have a large house that could conceivably take longer than 20 minutes to clean.
There is a convenient battery-life indicator on the vacuum so you will know how you are tracking, but if you do run out of juice be prepared to delay completion of your chores by several hours until the unit is usable again.
It should be noted that the battery charges in its own separate cradle. You can’t place the vacuum with the battery still inside on to the charging station. It must be stored elsewhere.
What are others saying about the Hoover Linx?
Average customer review: Rating:

Around 600 5-star reviews can’t be wrong – this is a terrific vacuum cleaner.
“GWB” from Northern Canada says that it is the best cordless vacuum they have ever used without exception.
.. It is very light and easy to carry weighing just 1 lb more than the Dirt Devil Extreme Power Stick Vacuum, which it beats in all regards hands-down, .
It picks up dirt almost as well as my self-propelled Hoover Windtunnel (bagged) and edge-cleaning close to the wall may even be better than the full size Hoover – though it does not lift plush pile quite as well.
Cat food, cat litter, fur, hair, sand, popcorn etc. are no problem for this vacuum, and the generously sized (for a cordless) dirt canister is very easy to remove, open and empty…

Conclusion
At a very affordable price and excellent performance, the Hoover Linx is going to be a winner for a lot of people.
If you want a light, hassle-free stick vacuum cleaner that can work on a variety of surfaces and situations then you have to have the Linx near the top of your list, especially if you don’t have a lot of floor space or can schedule your vacuuming into 20 minute segments.
For most, it won’t be a problem though.
If you find that you really love the thing once you have it in your home then there is no reason why you couldn’t buy an extra battery pack, enabling you to have your cake and eat it too.
The low initial asking price of the vacuum itself may leave a little extra room in your budget for that battery upgrade in the future anyway!
As always, if you don’t think that it is right for you then please, don’t buy it.
